Benjamin Clementine shares new single ‘Quintessence’, new album ‘I Tell A Fly’ now due out on September 29th

Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine is now streaming ‘Quintessence’, the latest track to emerge from his forthcoming album I Tell A Fly, due out September 29, through Behind / Virgin EMI. A delicate ballad, driven by the ebb & flow of Clementine’s piano playing, ‘Quintessence’ follows recent singles ‘Jupiter’, ‘Phantom Of Aleppoville’ and ‘God Save The Jungle’. The latter premiering via 6Music, for whom Benjamin recently played a Lauren Laverne live session – and an acclaimed appearance at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival, the Guardian describing Clementine as a “rare, unvarnished and unpredictable artist”. Listen to Quintessence here.

Recently the subject of The South Bank Show, Benjamin Clementine’s I Tell A Fly follows debut album At Least For Now, which was awarded the Mercury in 2015 and a collaboration this year with Damon Albarn for the latest Gorillaz album. To follow the release of I Tell A Fly, Clementine will play a series of UK & European headline dates through November and December, including London’s Brixton Academy on December 5th. A New York show at Carnegie Hall is also on sale for October 5.

Speaking about the new album, Clementine says, “I have written my second piece called I Tell A Fly. In little words- it’s a story about two wandering flies finding fleet. I am neither a politician nor prophet but an artist who creates to only entertain is no better than a con. I hope this album fulfils its purpose as the continuation from At Least For Now. Thank you for your kindness, warmth, patience and  unparalleled support. Ars brevis, vita longa.”
