O Emperor UK debut double A side single out 19th November 2012

Rising Irish talents O Emperor are to release their debut UK single this November with the Double A sided, ‘Electric Tongues/Erman Gou’ on November 19 2012.

The release comes in the wake of O Emperor’s deftly accomplished album debut, the Choice Music Prize nominated Hither Thither, which was a top 10 record in Ireland and drew praise from the likes of State and Hot Press, the latter describing the band as, ‘a little like The Beach Boys, The Band and The Smiths being digested by a cannibalistic Lee Mavers from The La’s’.

A relentlessly proactive live band, O Emperor have previously toured alongside the likes of Villagers and Mumford & Sons, plus slots in their own right on the renowned Other Voices series and festival appearances at Benicassim, SXSW and Electric Picnic.

‘Electric Tongues/Erman Gou’ is the first taste of next year’s forthcoming new album, and reflects the developing taste and diversification of the Waterford-based outfit. Lead cut ‘Electric Tongues’ pits Paul Savage’s gossamer vocals against the propulsive rhythms of the 70s Krautrock albums which proliferate the band’s collective record collection. There’s an appealing feel of sensory overload here, somewhat akin to a surreal dream, borne out through Savage’s otherworldly lyricism.

If ‘Electric Tongues’ is then something of a flight of fancy, B side ‘Erman Gou’ proves to be a perfect foil. An introspective, back down-to-earth slow jam, whose stream of conscious guitar and synth work mirrors the assurance of a young band unmistakably growing into their identity.
