Anna Leone returns with new single ‘Wondering’, out via Allpoints/Half Awake

Anna Leone today returns with single ‘Wondering’, her first offering of new music in two years. The new single ‘Wondering’, out now via AllPoints/Half Awake, is the follow-up to the Stockholm native’s widely applauded 2018 debut EP ‘Wandered Away’, and is produced by Paul Butler (Michael Kiwanuka, Hurray For The Riff Raff). Enjoying airplay at 6Music from the likes of Lauren Laverne & Guy Garvey to name a few & alongside Ones To Watch tips from Spotify and Youtube, the EP has also clocked over 18 million streams and counting to date. ‘Wondering’ follows close on the tail of Anna’s recent win at the 2020 Music Moves Talent Awards, alongside fellow winners Flohio, girl in red and Pongo.

The Line of Best Fit made ‘Wondering’ Song of the Day upon release, which you can read here:

Drawing us back into Leone’s delicate but uncompromisingly honest universe, the slow-build intensity of ‘Wondering’ hits the emotional redline with a careful maturity that belies her 25 years of age. Speaking about the path to creating the follow-up to ‘Wandered Away’ (produced by Grammy-nominated Bryan Wilson), Anna notes; “I’ve been going back and forth recently trying to decide whether I should start releasing new songs. My music is very much about isolation and being disconnected, and I’ve been kind of questioning if that‘s the energy I should put out into the world right now. I think ultimately though, the songs are about isolation but they’re also about healing, and I can only hope that that’s what people take away from them. I’ve been dealing with depression and anxiety for a long time and this album is sort of the culmination of all those feelings. I still can’t listen to it all the way through without crying, which is painful but also a good thing, I think. It feels cathartic.”

Raised alongside four sisters in a quiet suburb of Stockholm, as an introverted video game and sci-fi  obsessive Anna Leone fast developed her own rich inner life. Growing up absorbed in DC and Marvel’s comic storytelling while watching two of her elder siblings join a Swedish pop group as teenagers, Leone bought a guitar with no other intention beyond privately perfecting treasured releases by the likes of Bon Iver, Lana Del Rey and and Laura Marling. Soon demonstrating a facility for startling, emotionally resonant song-writing of her own, and battling against the debilitating stage fright which is still present today, Leone has found a fast-growing international audience which continues to stretch far, far beyond the four walls of her teenage bedroom.
